This original poster is identifiable as a rare first edition (printed prior to the performance) by the presence of brown ink in the arrow-shaped tail below the ‘M’ of BALLROOM. This poster is a popular symbol of the psychedelic era and was controversial in its day, owing, in part, to the phallis-shaped photograph of Big Brother and the Holding Company, with Janis Joplin at its head, and the title "Motherload".
