Prince – Dirty Mind, Vinyl LP
Factory Sealed (New)
Already with his first two albums Prince was musically brilliant, but he still lacked his own style. Many things still sounded predominantly like the typical funk and soul sound of the late 70s.
At the latest from Dirty Mind on Prince copied nothing and nobody any more, from this album on he was really independent and unique. And he didn't make any more concessions to the mass taste. The album sounds raw and sparse, but it also offers Prince in absolute purity. Whatever Prince agreed: His authenticity, his bite, his instrumental ability or his radical unrestrainedness in the lyrics and the interpretation - on this album everything is present, not in the initial stage, but already in perfection.
"Dirty Mind" wasn't the big commercial hit at the time, but this album is a jewel, and what a one. Because here for the first time you could hear that there was a real artist at the start, who expressed something true and real, something that has real musical meaning and was not only limited to optics and good shows.
